Brian Robinson is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist with over twenty-five years’ experience in energy and climate change policy, sustainability, vehicle safety, strategic analysis, the activities of professional associations, programme leadership and managing people, projects and resources.
After 15 years in total at TRL (the Transport Research Laboratory), Brian became an independent, freelance researcher and consultant in 2014. His clients include the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and it is through them that he has, since November 2014, been seconded on a part time basis into the Freight Policy Branch of the Department for Transport. There he is a Senior Policy Advisor, and has worked on various aspects of the decarbonisation and emissions performance of freight transport, including the Low Carbon Truck Trials, methane slip research, air quality policy and the modelling and development of freight transport carbon scenarios for 2030.
Outside of his work for DfT, LowCVP and other clients, Brian represents IMechE as a Council Member and is a Cabinet Member of the Society for the Environment, is a Vice Chairman of the IMechE’s Energy, Environment & Sustainability Group, an assessor for the Chartered Environmentalist qualification and a member of the Transport Theme Steering Group of IMechE.
