Roger Wise is the founder director of Ultrawise Innovation Ltd a company offering devices in welding and joining thermoplastics and thermoplastic composites to themselves and to other materials. He has spent over 25 years at TWI in the welding and joining industry, innovating in several industry sectors through patented inventions and by focused collaborative R&D projects.
Roger has had a strong focus on welding carbon fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites, first for the aerospace industry in the 1980s and now for the automotive industry. He invented the world’s first welding technology for plastics to metals, and has made key advances in microwave, ultrasonic and laser welding of polymers.
Through his knowledge of joining technologies, Roger Wise is committed to supporting the automotive industry in meeting its low carbon emissions targets by light weighting through the use of high performance, low density materials such as carbon fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites. He has a PhD in welding polymers, and an MBA; he has authored a book on welding polymers, and co-authored a recent review of Carbon Fibres for the KTN.
