Dr. Edwards graduated in Automotive Engineering and Design and completed his doctorate in engine tribology. His career to date has centred on engine development with a specialisation in commercial vehicles.
Between 1982 and 1993 Dr. Edwards worked for LeylandDAF Trucks. He was employed in the Advanced Technology department, undertaking vehicle aerodynamics and engine friction reduction activities.
From 1993 to 2006 Dr. Edwards worked for Ricardo, on engines development and research projects, firstly in the UK and latterly, after a UK Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship with DaimlerChrysler, in Stuttgart, Germany.
In 2006 Dr. Edwards joined Behr GmbH & Co., KG in Stuttgart as Director for Advanced Engineering in the Engine Cooling Product Division. In this role the responsibilities included the development for first series production application of all engine cooling products, the prototype shop and validation facilities and competence centres for joining and chemical technologies.
In July 2012 Dr. Edwards rejoined Ricardo and is currently Global Technology Director, responsible for the research and collaboration portfolio of the company. He also has a role in the senior leadership team of Ricardo Deutschland GmbH.
Dr. Edwards is author or co-author of over 35 technical papers and co-editor of two books on statistics for engine optimisation. He has also held a variety of positions in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in the UK, been a visiting lecturer at and is a member of the technical advisory board for the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Dr. Edwards is currently Chairman of the European Automotive Research Partners Association which is based in Brussels.
